summer was ice cream
sandwiched
in between
twin wafers,
wet hands holding,
hoping to hold
it all together
in the heat
both sides
backsliding,
slipping,
dripping,
dropping in humid weather.
chocolate clinging
to wet fingers,
hands surrendering
to holding messes
made in summer.
sisters,
brothers
tasting
the sweetness
of reconciliation.
black and white
melting into one,
an invitation
to come undone.
art peeling away
the grief,
paint cleaning
the messes left
on the slippery surfaces
of summer.
i wonder...
